Abstract
Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant generates electricity by using 20〜27℃ temperature difference between warm seawater at surface and cold seawater in depth. OTEC is environment-friendly and semi-permanent energy sources because its heat source is seawater warmed by the sun and no incineration, and no CO_2 emission can be achieved. To make the system highly effective, a lot of cycles are proposed so far. In the recent years, the Kalina cycle and the Uehara cycle with absorption and extraction were proposed to increase the conversion system efficiency. On the other hand, the influence that characteristic of each equipment and cycle flow exerts on the system is not clarified enough. Hence, the power cycle that requires no absorber, (R-cycle) was examined and compared with the Kalina cycle and the results are presented in this paper.
