Abstract
Natural convective flows around upward-facing, horizontal heated plate attached with a vertical heated plate at the edge were investigated experimentally. The test fluid is water. The widths of horizontal heated plates, W, and the heights of vertical plates, H, were changed as W=100∿350mm and H=0∿150mm. Visualization of flow and surface temperatures has been carried out with dye and liquid crystal thermometry. Local heat-transfer-coefficients were also measured. The result shows that the incoming flow from the vertical plate side disappears when the height of the plate exceeds H/W=0.1. It is also found that the local heat-transfer-coefficients of the horizontal plate are increased with the height of vertical plates.
