Abstract
In this paper, quantitative changes for three-dimensional characteristics of the natural convection field in a vertical slot with horizontal temperature difference were numerically examined. The Prandtl number was held constant of 0.71,and the Rayleigh number was changed between (10)^<0.1> and (10)^7. As a result, it was revealed that (1) three-dimensional characteristics are essential feature of the convection, (2) the convection has two symmetrical properties, i. e. the centro-symmetry between hot and cold side walls and the symmetry in the depth direction, and the former property is lost at the smaller Rayleigh number than the latter is lost, and (3) spatially chaotic characteristics are observed above the critical Rayleigh number the both symmetries are broken.
