Abstract
In the future, carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) with high hydrogen gas barrier performance will find wide applications in all industrial hydrogen tanks that aim at weight reduction. At present, current high pressure hydrogen tanks for fuel cell vehicle and Liquid hydrogen tanks consist of liners made of aluminum alloy or resin with good hydrogen gas barrier characteristics overwrapped and reinforced by CFRP layer using filament winding to withstand pressure. The high pressure hydrogen tanks made of aluminum alloy liner has complete gas barrier characteristic, but is heavy and costly. The high pressure hydrogen tank made of resin liner, on the other hand, is light in weight, but it has disadvantage in hydrogen gas permeability. This paper introduces the applicability of the clay film "Claist" compound composite to the high pressure hydrogen gas tanks. The manufacture process of high pressure hydrogen tank and liquid tank and its hydrogen leakage test are discussed.
