Abstract

The purpose of this study was to simulate the forces that a boat receives from water in order to improve the skill of yacht manipulation. The sailor should trim the sail and adjust the angle of the boat depending on the wind direction to create maximum acceleration to the boat speed caused by the lift force acting perpendicular to the water flow. In the lift, most of the components of the transversal drag will be gone by the drag from the center board which will lead to accelerating the boat forward. Therefore, the sailor needs to trim the sail and adjust the angle of the boat while predicting changes in wind direction. However, it would be difficult for beginners to predict the wind and control the boat accurately. By estimating the total acting force from each panel and calculating the fluid force vector, it was estimated the fluid force acting the structure of boat as hull. From the implementation of a simulation by modeling the drag from the water surface , it became able to simulate a similar physic as a sail boat.
