Abstract

A prototype of beta configuration small Stirling engines has been built for the development of small Stirling engines used in thermal engineering experiments for educational purposes. Though the engine has been designed to be heated by an alcohol lamp when used for educational purposes, it can also be heated by a gas burner if higher power and/or higher speeds are needed. Details on the engine design and some aspects of its performance as well as the difficulties to be overcome are reported.
