Abstract
This paper studied factors and effects of energy saving of Shinkansen trains, focusing on traction system change of innovative Shinkansen series 300 and 700. This study analysed contribution of regenerative brake energy and reduction of loss of running resistance for energy saving quantitatively. In addition, actual energy saving effect of high efficient trains was indicated by reduction of yearly electricity consumption.
