Abstract
In recent years, many different technologies that are expected to contribute to the reduction in energy consumption of DC electric railways. In this paper, the author attempts to give an overview and comparison of these technologies, and to discuss how these technologies can contribute to lower energy consumption of DC railways. The author believes the emergence and application of these technologies will eventually lead to the re-designing of the whole energy supply systems for railways.
