Abstract
Efficient storage and access of the 3D building information modeling data are the key technical issues of digital management for construction engineering projects in their whole life cycle. In this paper, the building model data are clearly divided into several groups according to the different level of relationship and different purposes. Various groups of data storage structure which satisfy the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) standards are established based on two-dimensional relational database and XML file, and based on which the corresponding data access mechanism is designed. Analysis results show that the proposed mechanism is of 6 times access efficiency, flexible and strong serviceability, due to the storage mechanism is clear.
