Abstract
In laser printers or copy machines, isothermal heating as well as rapid response of drum or heat roll is desired. Concentric annular heat pipe, which is called Roll Heat Pipe (RHP) in this paper, can be a good candidate for this purpose. In RHP, the evaporator and condenser are separated in the radial direction and the energy is moved in radial direction. The major concern is the transient thermal response as well as isothermal characteristics of the heat pipe outer surface. In this work, the warm up time of this heat pipe is compared with roll made of copper. Also, the temperature distribution on the outer surface of the heat pipe is obtained. The results show that the thermal response of the heat pipe is much faster than copper and the temperature uniformity is much better than the heat roll. Finally, the effect of rotational speed up to 50rpm on the operation of this heat pipe is investigated. The results show that the temperature decrease of maximum 3℃ occurs on the outer surface of the heat pipe.
