Abstract
This study is performed to investigate experimentally the deflagration flame of dilution gas added to hydrogen-air mixtures propagating in a narrow space simulated channel with special attention to flame front configurations and speeds, because the deflagration to detonation transitions is caused mostly by enhancement of the flame front propagation. Mixtures having nearly the same laminar burning velocity S_<L0> diluted with Ar, CO_2 or He as well as N_2 are prepared, in order to examine effect of dilution gas types on inhibition of the flame propagation speed. The flame shape and propagation speeds are obtained by using sequential schlieren photograph images recorded. The results show that He deteriorates the flame acceleration with traveling a distance.
