Abstract
In order to obtain an optimum operating condition of a laser sintering for metal powders, we conduct a computer simulation to predict the fundamental melting and solidification behavior. In this simulation, the power of applied laser-beam is assumed as a Gaussian distribution. When the temperature of control volume is reached to its melting point, the phase of control volume is changed due to the enthalpy balance. As the result, it is found that the melting depth does not change much as heat flux is increased.
