Rheology and impedance measurements of carbon/ionomer dispersions were conducted to evaluate the state of the dispersions quantitatively. Porous electrodes used in polymer electrolyte fuel cells are fabricated from the dispersions and their structure determines cell performance. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the inner states of the dispersions quantitatively to control the structure of the electrodes. In this study, the two measurements were applied on the dispersions prepared by different mixing conditions which are empirically known as a fabrication parameter. It is found that the mixing conditions significantly affected both results of rheology and impedance measurements.
