Abstract
An experimental study of a plasma jet at a low pressure was carried out to examine the influence of strong magnetic field on the behavior of thermal plasma jet. The purpose of this study is to clarify the controllability of the plasma jet by the strong magnetic field and the possibility of enhancing the functions of plasma flow for the future application. The behavior of Argon plasma was observed by a digital video camera when strong magnetic field was applied to the jet by means of a pair of superconducting coils. It is shown quantitatively that the jet width decreases with increases in the applied magnetic field.
