Abstract
The results of an experimental study on vibration characteristics of magnetic fluid adsorbed to a permanent magnet subject to vertical oscillation are presented. The disk magnet-magnetic fluid system was vibrated with an electrodynamic shaker. The amplitude of the oscillation of the permanent magnet was measured with an optical displacement detector system. It was found that the natural frequency of the magnet-magnetic fluid element system depended on the volume of magnetic fluid. The dynamic response of magnetic fluid surface was also observed with a high speed digital camera system. The harmonic and subharmonic waves on the magnetic fluid surface were revealed.
