Abstract
The final goal of this study is to produce safety structures for human friendly robots. This paper describes an experimental and FEA investigation on the wall buckling and the collapse of three types of rectangular tubes due to a round-shaped indenter at the midspan. A moire topography system is proposed in order to observe the web and flange synchronously and in whole. The experimental and FEA results show that the maximum load depends on the wall buckling of the webs and the two types are able to keep the enduring load at the high level even after the maximum load.
