Abstract
To maintain an elevator component part, one of the three maintenance methods is applied : Time Based Maintenance (TBM), Condition Base Maintenance (CBM), and Breakdown Maintenance (BM). For each of various parts, which have different failure characteristics, it is very important to select the proper method among the three methods. In this paper, the failure characteristic of an elevator part is modeled, and the maintenance cost and the quality cost (the loss evaluated in terms of cost, to be incurred when an elevator breaks down) are derived theoretically under each of the three maintenance methods. Then, the approach to identify the cost-minimized maintenance method and to determine the optimal maintenance cycle is developed. Finally, from numerical experiments, it is shown that the proposed approach can design a more cost-effective and better maintenance method than the one given by Online Quality Engineering.
