Abstract
We have evaluated reliability and availability of EMU in East Japan Railway Company corresponding to RAMS concept determined in an European standard. According to the results, we have identified the particular parts to influence the reliability and availability. To improve the reliability and availability, we have developed advanced commuter train, named AC Train and estimated its effect by adopting new systems.
