Abstract
The optimum design of highway tollgate is studied by a simulation method. The present simulation in this report is based on the discrete modeling of each cars, road and gates. The time-marching procedure is employed in this simulation and every car moves independently in each time steps. The field surveys of the behaviors of cars near tollgate are conducted, and the simulation models are implemented. This simulation method is applied to the Tokyo tollgate design of the Tomei highway and the optimum number and arrangement of ETC gates is given as a result of simulation combined with a optimization scheme.
