Abstract
When a high-speed train enters or leaves a tunnel, impulsive pressure waves are radiated directly from the entrance/exit portal toward the outside of the tunnel. A similar phenomenon occurs when a train passes a short structure (such as an over-bridge) in an open section. We call it a "structure-passing wave." Although the structure-passing wave is usually weak, it could cause an environmental problem as the train speed increases. In addition, people are taking interest increasingly in low-frequency noise. This paper describes the characteristics of the structure-passing wave based on the results of model experiment.
