Abstract
The research concerning wheel/rail contact mechanics is very important for technical innovations as well as safety of railway systems. We have organized an academic society for the study on this field in Japan since last year. In this paper I explain the necessity of the research on wheel/ rail contact mechanics and introduce our society named JSCM. In addition I introduce several technical topics in this field, such as corrugation, wheel tread/rail head profile, friction modifier, lubrication, etc.
