Abstract
This study deals with wheel flange climbing, which is one of the causes of derailment. The experiment using a single axle truck shows a tendency in which the increase of attack angle and the decrease of static wheel load ratio make small the necessary external force for derailment. Here, it is shown that the influence of the latter is small. In the numerical analysis with an analytical model that is built based on experimental results, not only the attack angle but also static wheel load ratio affect the derailment largely. The wheel tread lifting and wheel flange climbing, those are observed in the experiment under the condition without the external force, also can be simulated with the analytical model.
