Abstract
It has been required to improve the usability of railway vehicles by using universal design concept. However, in the case of railway vehicles, there is no quantitative method to evaluate the degree of for universal design. Therefore, universal design 7+1 philosophies for railway vehicles have been defined by analyzing approximately 4000 complain of railway users. Moreover, its checklist has been developed. Using the 7+1 philosophies and its checklist, it has been confirmed to evaluate quantitatively the degree of universal design of railway commuter vehicles on a seven-axis radar chart.
