Abstract
In order to investigate running effects on aerodynamic characteristics of railway vehicles under strong crosswinds, we developed a moving model rig. A model train with 1/60 scale moves along a 4-m linear guide rail placed in front of a wind tunnel nozzle. The train runs 1〜5 m/s and the speed of the crosswind is 5 m/s. We successfully measured unsteady surface pressures on the train surface. The results showed that the pressure on the upwind side of the train becomes steady through an area of the crosswind, however, while those on the other sides keep unsteady.
