Abstract

Cast iron composite brake blocks, which include alumina filters mixed with CNT and several binders were produced and tested by a full-scale dynamometer to improve brake performance of them. The brake distance was shortened in the cast iron composite brake blocks including Alumina+AlPO_4, Alumina+SiO_2 and Alumina+CNT filters compared with cast iron brake blocks. It is considered that the alumina wear particles produced between the wheel tread and the brake block during braking, improved the brake distance. Wear and maximum temperature of the cast iron composite brake blocks decreased compared with conventional cast iron brake blocks because the cast iron matrix of the cast iron composite brake blocks was strengthened by inclusion of filters. It is expected that cast iron composite brake blocks, which include alumina filters with AlPO_4 and CNT will be better brake performance.
