Abstract
This study addresses the container storage arrangement on the container yard for the transshipment containers, in order to carry out the ship handling operations efficiently. There are various types of handling equipment operated in the container terminals in the world. The terminal layout depends on the handling equipments. Additionally, the yard trailer movement effects on the ship handling time. We consider the storage problem with types of handling equipment, in order to minimize the total service time and also to minimize the yard space utilization. To facilitate the solution procedure we employ the heuristics based by genetic algorithm (GA). As the results, it is clear that ship arrival patterns have an influence on evaluations.
