Abstract
Recent year, the pedestrian fatality is the major proportion of fatalities according to the statistics of traffic accident. Therefore, it is important to study and develop active safety technologies which target to pedestrian. This study focuses on the accident happened at vehicle is overtaking pedestrian in narrow road. By using near-miss incident database which has been developed by JSAE, we constructed a mathematical model for quantifying pedestrian behavior from camera image data. The conditions that vehicle is able to avoid crash to pedestrian even if pedestrian do sudden crossing is formulated mathematically based on pedestrian behavior model. Then, the driving behavior that driver should take to prepare for pedestrian sudden crossing is developed theoretically.
