Abstract
Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs) are sometimes used in pedestrian areas. It is important to discuss safety and comfort of PMVs in pedestrian areas. In this paper, the interaction between PMV and pedestrians is investigated using the personal space. Especially influence of the velocity of PMV on a pedestrian is evaluated in the experiment and the simulation. From the experimental results, it was found that the pedestrian's personal space expands when the velocity of the PMV increases. Fear was also increased when the velocity of the PMV increases. In the simulation, we introduced the index: invasion ratio, maximum invasion ratio and crossing time. It was found that invasion ratio and maximum ratio increase when the velocity of the PMV increases. It was shown that tendency of increase and decrease of crossing time according to the velocity of PMV changes by the position of pedestrians.
