Abstract
This paper deals with measurement of road surface condition by Quasi Electrostatic Field (QEF) sensing technology. The QEF is distributed over a dielectric of a human body, the vehicle body and a substance like electrostatic charge. The QEF sensing measures an electric change in a tire and a road surface with a sensing on the vehicle body by using this property without installing a sensor in the tire. A road surface sensing by wireless and electricity supply-less is possible. Because a tire will be a sensor, so-called tire sensing. An experiment was conducted in a dry surface road, a wet surface road, a snow surface road and a frozen surface road. It was indicated by the amplitude and a frequency analysis about the identifiability of the dry, the wet and the snow. The influence an environmental factor brings was indicated by a frozen surface road as a problem.
