Abstract
Railway company operators maintain a huge number of bogies. How to find a faulty bogie at low cost is an important subject for them. Therefore, some wayside monitoring systems have been developed. Existing wayside monitoring systems for running railway vehicles are capable of detecting bogies with a hot axle bearing, a tendency to hunt, a wheel defect, and so on. But systems for detecting faults of the rubber of an axle beam type suspension in the axle-box suspension, which is important for vehicle running safety, do not exist. In the previous study, the authors have recognized the feasibility of detecting bolt loosening in the axle-box suspension based on the vibration of a bogie running over a plate with a low speed by a wayside monitoring method to use a high-speed camera. In this presentation, we show that our wayside monitoring method is also effective in diagnosing the rubber degradation of an axle beam type suspension.
