Abstract
Recently, vibration suppression of the elevator rope sway motion due to a strong wind or an earthquake is more important for the long-travel elevator in high-rise buildings. However, it is difficult to suppress the rope sway if a vibration-suppression device such as a damper is mounted near the rope end termination. Against this background, the paper proposes passive vibration control of elevator rope using negative stiffness and damper. The negative stiffness contributes to improve vibration suppression performance of the damper even if vibration-suppression device is mounted near the rope end termination. It also presents the design of passive parameters to realize the desired damping ratio of string system. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by the experiments.
