Rail axial force of continuous welded rail must be managed for track buckling safety. Currently, rail axial force is estimated from rail axial displacement measured by manual measurement, which is labor-intensive and low reliability. We already developed rail axial force management methods using strain sensors to replace the existing ones, and now field testing. However, the sensing devices developed in the past were complex and could be simplified.
In this study, we developed a prototype of a sensing device that displays measurements on electronic paper, placed it in the field of view of a track component monitoring device, collected sensing data from the recorded images, and investigated a method for monitoring axial force.
