Abstract

The frictional force acts to the travelling pantograph head in horizontal direction due to sliding of the pantograph head and contact wire. If the coefficient of friction between the pantograph head and contact wire is large, instability of the traveling pantograph could be observed. For this problem, a 2-dimensional pantograph model that considers friction of the pantograph head was modeled. However, the stability of the contact strip on the pantograph was not studied. This study proposes two types of a 2-dimentional contact strip model each corresponding the rigid contact bar and the overhead contact line. In this paper, the formulae are presented for determining stability of the contact strip based on the complex eigenvalue analysis. Furthermore, mode shapes and natural frequencies of contact strip are identified by utilizing the Maxwell’s reciprocal theorem. Then the stability analysis based on the complex eigenvalue analysis is carried out using the identified modal parameters.
