Abstract
An impact of one-point bend test apparatus is developed for conducting test at high rates of stress up to 10^7 MPa. m^<1/2>.s^<-l/2>. The aluminum alloy 7075-T651 tested in one-point bend show increasing degree of rate sensitivity above 10^5 MPa. m^<1/2>.s^<-1> to 10^6 MPa. m^<1/2>.s^<-l/2>. On the other hand, the compression tests in the literature show essentially no strain rate sensitivity. A numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the stress-state ahead of the crack tip.
