Abstract
Driver’s mental workload is not only a critical factor for road safety but also a challenging for the researcher to evaluate. This research introduces a novel of measuring the level of driver mental workload by using the difference between the predicted and observed eye movements. In this paper, the involuntary eye movement predicted based on the combination of the vestibule-ocular reflex model and the optokinetic response. By using n-back task to impose the mental workload for the driver, this hypothesis was validated and confirmed in a driving simulator as well as in a naturalistic situation.
