Abstract

Bearings are used for rotation and translation in many machines. It can be classified into ball bearings and plain bearings. Ball bearings have a problem of failing earlier than their design life. The problem is caused by a combination of multiple factors. Therefore, it is difficult to determine the cause. Accordingly, it is necessary to survey the behavior of the ball. Solving this problem would allow more accurate design life calculation and reduce bearing wear. They can keep many machines in service longer. In this study, the discrete element method (DEM) was used for the analysis. The effectiveness of the DEM will be examined by comparison with experiments. DEM is one of the effective methods because it can analyze contact and non-contact between elements. The model for the analysis is a structure with five spheres in a container. The container is composed of one cylinder or two cylinders. Calculate the displacement and rotation of the sphere by vibrating the container. The rotation of the sphere changed as a result of changing the container.
