Abstract
With good high-temperature resistance, high specific stiffness and strength, metal matrix composites (MMCs) are used in aerospace structures. As part of the research project to evaluate MMCs' strength at elevated temperature, tensile tests of SiC fiber (Nippon Carbon's HI-(NICALON)^<TM>) reinforced pure aluminum (1090) were performed, in order to measure the material's strength from room temperature to elevated temperature up to 500℃. The measured data, as well as those collected from literature, show that the material's strength decreases linearly with the increase of temperature.
