Abstract

The Water Jet Peening (WJP) is a well-known method to reduce residual stress. The size of peening marks formed by WJP with a few micrometer is so small, although the high residual compressive stress is obtained on the material surface. This means that WJP is a mild surface treatment. It is found that the extreme values statistical analysis is effective to estimate the maximum size of peening marks by WJP and the collapse pressure of cavitations.
