[Purpose] This study aimed to confirm the factors related to quality of life (QOL) improvements in patients who have undergone total knee replacement surgery and have been discharged from the hospital. [Method] Questionnaires were administered to 60 patients who had undergone total knee arthroplasty. The difference in the QOL pre- and postoperatively was considered the improvement status, and the association with the characteristics of the participants was investigated. [Results] The average age of the participants was 74.3 years, and 88.3% were female. The higher the psychological sense of well-being, the higher the QOL improvement. Further, participants with osteoporosis demonstrated a significantly lower QOL improvement. Furthermore, participants who stated consuming green and yellow vegetables almost daily exhibited a higher QOL improvement. [Discussion] The results indicate higher QOL improvement in patients who have undergone total knee arthroplasty with good psychological health. Further, a new finding indicated that osteoporosis was associated with QOL improvement. Furthermore, dietary preferences are considered related to QOL.
