Abstract
The effect of Ubretid on the motor function of the gastrointestinal tract in dogs was studied with the aid of electromyography. Then a cine-fluoroscopic study was made in human subjects following administration of Ubretid. It was found that the gastric and intestinal peristalsis was actively stimulated by Ubretid.
Then, Ubretid was administered to ten cases of paralytic ileus following laparotomies, and the results were compared with ten similar cases who were treated with another type of peristalsis-stimulating agents as the control group.Awareness of peristalsis, passage of flatus and bowel movements occurred much sooner in the group of Ubretid treatment. The function of Ubretid was quite effective.
None of them developed severe side effect, although mild diarrhea and abdominal pain were noted in few patients.
