Abstract
Several types of mechanical current meters have been used in coastal current monitoring and assessment surveys. In addition to them, new types of current meters including ADCPs have been developed and used widely. As it is anticipated that there should be differences in characteristics among the types of current meters, intercomparing experiments were carried out in some coastal areas of Japan. The experiments included the comparison for the mooring configuration between surface and bottom mooring, and the comparison for the environmental situation; in Tokyo Bay where the current speed is small, in Sagami Bay where higher waves are expected. Based on the present analysis, responding characteristics of current meters are summarized.
