Abstract

Object> Importance of astrocyte in epilepsy and dementia is stressed.

Materials & Methods> In 53 MCI people in outpatients, standard EEG are taken and analyzed about their dipoles in each brain structure.

Results> Unexpectedly frontal dipoles are observed in 17 patients, and temporal dipoles are detected in only 6 patients, and other structures are detected in other18 patients, no epileptic abnormalities are detected in only 12 patients.

Conclusion> In the pathogenesis of intractable epilepsy, the important role of astrocyte, microglia, and oligodendroglia is demonstrated.

Especially antiepileptic drugs targeting astrocytes normalization should be made in near future.
