Abstract

We here review epidemiology, basic and clinical perspective, and pathophysiology of central sensitization in refractory diseases and summarize our researches for care of those patients. This review and our researches were supported by Health, Labour and Welfare Sciences Research Grants, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan. This review consists of study results obtained from each research group. We have shown central sensitization has some important role in various diseases, especially refractory diseases. We hope our cross–sectional study results may help patient care and may in part clarify the role of central sensitization in refractory diseases, which will be the basis for future research.
