The Dementia Basic Act, enacted in June 2023, emphasizes the importance of people with dementia coexisting with others in the community. This Basic Act states the basic philosophy of disseminating, utilizing, and developing research results related to dementia prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, etc. On the other hand, the number of elderly people with MCI and dementia living alone in the community is rapidly increasing. Even if progress is made in the development of disease–modifying drugs for each dementia disease in near future, it will be important to take a non–drug approach to MCI and advanced stage dementia, including community living support in line with the principles of this law.
