The treatment in Japanese traditional (Kampo) medicine (JTM) involves determining Sho (pattern). A pattern can be told to be “a group of symptoms and findings as the phenotype of a disease”. When that group of symptoms is a biological reaction related to the cause of a disease, it is often the case that the same treatment is effective (different diseases and same treatment) even if the Western diagnosis of disease is different, because the pattern is the same. The treatment in JTM for intractable neurological diseases may not be very effective because it involves damage to the nervous system, which is one of the mechanisms of JTM. However, we believe that in the future, it may be possible to make it more effective by combining it with gene therapy and regenerative medicine in this field.
