Abstract

Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by lesions primarily affecting the frontal and temporal lobes. The clinical presentation varies depending on the lesion site and includes behavioral abnormalities, personality changes, and language impairments. Currently, no disease–modifying therapies are available for FTLD. Although off–label pharmacological treatments, such as antidementia drugs, antidepressants, and antipsychotics, have been explored, none have demonstrated sufficient efficacy.

In addition to pharmacological approaches, non–pharmacological interventions for FTLD, including behavioral therapy, art therapy, music therapy, and exercise therapy, have been proposed. These interventions aim to stabilize patients' emotions and behaviors and improve their quality of life ; however, the evidence supporting their effectiveness remains limited.

This review examines both pharmacological and non–pharmacological treatment strategies attempted for FTLD. Furthermore, it presents case studies and introduces the non–pharmacological therapeutic approaches currently implemented by the authors.
