Abstract
Gingival cyst of the adult is a rare odontogenic cyst occurring in the gingiva. The patient was a 62-year-old woman who was referred to our clinic by her family dentist to investigate an abnormality of the gingiva. A slightly raised gingival lesion 3mm in diameter was detected on the attached gingiva between the right maxillary canine and first premolar. No bone resorption was detected on radiography. Cystic lesion of the gingiva was suspected and surgical resection was performed. Pathologically, cyst formation with thin non-keratinized epithelial lining was observed, and gingival cyst of the adult was diagnosed. No evidence of recurrence has been seen since surgery. We reviewed the Japanese literature on gingival cysts of the adult.
