Abstract
Analytical results are presented for two plasma stability integrals _??_d1 and _??_dl/B for the linear quadrupole, . hexapole, and octopole magnetic field configurations. In case of symmetric distribution of current filaments, they can be expressed in terms of the complete elliptic integral. of the first kind.
The stability limit lines defined by (∂/∂ψ) _??_dl=0 and (∂/∂ψ) _??_dl/B= 0 (ψ : flux function) are determined together with themagnetic mirror ratios on those flux lines.
Non-symmetric linear hexapole configurations are also discussed briefly.
