Abstract
A simple and reliable method of levitating current carrying hoops for a quadrupole magnetic field is presented. The hoops are initially supported by three supports, and the supports are expelled down by a magnetic coil excited by a capacitor bank leaving the current carrying hoops floating in space for more than 10 msec.
The reproducibility is perfect and no damage nor deformation of material used is observed. Some preliminary experiment on the plasma injection without the effect of supports is described, and another possibility of levitating for longer time for a thermonuclear reactor by using a weghtless system is also discussed.
