Abstract

A new method of current drive utilizing thermo-electric effect is proposed. An electron temperature gradient is created by trapping cold electrons brought into the plasma by neutral beams. The combined effects of the density gradient produced by sloshing ions and the electron temperature gradient lead to the thermo-electric current drive. The beam power needed for heating is sufficient to drive and maintain the ohmic current.
